Adult children still needing parental permission
In Nepal, there is a stark divide between legal adulthood and "social adulthood." While the law grants individuals the right to vote, drive, and work at age 18—and the right to marry at 20—social and cultural autonomy is rarely granted at these milestones. Instead, adult children well into their mid-to-late twenties frequently report needing explicit parental permission for everyday activities: going to cafes, traveling domestically, choosing a career, dating, and spending their own money.
